Feng Shui Exterior Paint

Ming and Qing building

Choosing a feng shui exterior paint color is more than just deciding which colors you like best.

Feng Shui Exterior Paint and Trigrams

Before choosing the perfect feng shui paint, you first need to determine which walls of your home are the facing and sitting walls.

Determining the Facing and Sitting Walls

The facing wall of a home is generally easy to determine, but here are some guidelines. The facing wall usually contains:

  • The busiest entrance - Some of the time, the doorway that is used the most for entering and exiting the home is the facing wall.
  • A wall with the most windows
  • The side of the house that receives the most natural light
  • The portion of the house that faces the road
  • The exterior wall of the living room

After you've determined the facing wall, find the sitting. This wall is simply the one that is directly opposite the facing wall. Now all you have to do is figure out the direction in which the sitting wall is facing, north, south, east or west. Once you have that figured out, you can move on to deciding a feng shui exterior paint based on the Trigram in which your house sits.

Exterior Paint Colors by Trigram

Now that you've determined the direction in which the sitting wall of your home is facing you are ready to pick the exterior paint color according to feng shui trigrams. When browsing the list of colors, keep in mind that any shade or variant of the listed colors are fine. For example, your house sits in the Li Trigram, you don't have to paint it bright red. Explore Different Shades of Color

When looking at the above lists of feng shui exterior paint, don't be discouraged because some of the colors seem a little too bold. If you've ever been to a paint store, you know there are so many different shades of every color listed above that you are bound to find one you love. The best way to approach the exterior paint color of your home is to bring home as many paint chips in the colors according to the direction in which you home's sitting wall faces. Once you have all the colors you love, go outside your home and hold the paint chips in the natural light to determine which color combinations feel right. In all likelihood, the color combinations that feel right to you are going to look great on your home.
