Most of the Chinese characters and symbols are the same whether you use the Earlier Heaven Order or the Later Heaven Order bagua layouts. The major difference is the order in which each character, or feng shui consultant font, is laid out.

Earlier Heaven Bagua Order

The Earlier Heaven bagua represent perfect balance. The layout of the Earlier Heaven bagua has Heaven or Qian at the top of the octagon and the earth, or Kun, at the bottom. The Earlier Heaven bagua is arranged in such a manner that everything around the octagon faces its opposite:

  • Qian (heaven) sits at the top opposite of Kun (earth).
  • Xun (sun) is opposite of Zhen (thunder)
  • Kan (water) is opposite of Li (fire)
  • Gen (mountain) is opposite Dui (lake)
