Does Feng Shui Have Polarity
From LoveToKnow Feng-Shui
Many people ask the question, does feng shui have polarity? The answer is yes. Feng shui is all about balance, and feng shui expresses its polarity as the yin and yang. The polarity of feng shui is expressed in buildings of the living, known as yang, and buildings of the dead, known as yin.
How Does Feng Shui Have Polarity?
Yin and Yang
The Yin and Yang theory is the polarity of feng shui. The polarity of yin and yang operates much like a bipolar magnetic field. The polarity has two parts. One part is creating an exertion of energy, while one is receiving this aforementioned exertion. According to ancient Daoist theory, everything that exists consists of the qi, also known as the energy, or life force. The qi possesses two opposite properties, the yin and the yang. The yin is the receptive property and the yang is the active property. The yin and yang are opposite (polar) properties and can thus not exist separately.
The Qi
The qi (pronounced chi) consists of eight elements that make up the universe, the lake, mountain, water, fire, thunder, heaven, earth, and wind. A combination of three of these elements is known as a trigram. Trigrams represent a specific energy pattern. The arrangement of these energies does not only affect the qi in the environment, but also has an affect on the person who is in this environment. All of the eight trigrams of feng shui consist of yin and yang in very precise amounts. The polarity of feng shui essentially has the goal of trying to bring into harmony both the universe and the individual.
The ba gua
The ba gua is arranging energy trigrams for the purpose of having them exist in balance and harmony. The ba gua is also known as the sequence of the later heaven. Every trigram has a polar partner opposite that balances out the component and helps contribute to universal harmony and balance. For instance, water is balanced by fire, mountain by earth, heaven by wind, and thunder by lake. The ba gua is arranged in a circular pattern with the element of fire placed on the top. The elements go clockwise and follow as earth, lake, heaven, water, mountain, thunder, and wind. The Taiji is known as the yin-yang symbol. The yin yang is located in the center of the trigrams to balance out the universe with polarity. The yin yang represents the unifying universal force. The yin yang not only uses polarity, but polarity is the very essence of feng shui.
Feng Shui Polarity for Practical Purposes
Once thought of as kooky and impractical, the polarity of feng shui is becoming quite popular and is now accepted in mainstream society. Feng shui is not just about happiness and health, but also about financial success. It is now used in many matters, including business and home decoration, design, ceremonial events, and even real estate. Many people have turned to feng shui in order to sell their homes by turning the negative polarity into a positive polarity.
It is extraordinary how many people use feng shui. According to the principles of feng shui, certain colors and specific elements must be properly and precisely positioned in each life area in order for a home to be considered in balance and harmony. Many of the world's leading designers and architects use feng shui. The design philosophy behind feng shui is used to bring beauty to the home, but also harmony to the lives of those living within the home.
Feng shui is commonly believed to promote positive health, positive social relationships, self-confidence, creativity, prosperity, contemplation, and respect for others. Polarity is the force that brings balance and harmony to feng shui. Now you know just what to say the next time you hear someone ask, does feng shui have polarity?.

Lew,
I am not sure what the Gu Ba is, but there is a ba gua (sometimes referred to as ba gu) in feng shui. The ba gua is more commonly known as the magic square. The square involves numbers that represent parts of an area (like a home, office or garden). Each number relates differently to the energies of that space.
