Books as Poison Arrows in Feng Shui
From LoveToKnow Feng-Shui
Learn how to correct the negative energy from books as poison arrows in feng shui by knowing a few basic chi principles.
About Poison Arrows
In feng shui, positive chi flows like a river or gentle stream, in a meandering and winding manner. The opposite of this positive chi is the "Shar Chi", also referred to as the "Killing Breath". This negative energy travels along straight lines, emanates from sharp corners and brings adversity and misfortune to the people or person in which it is directed.
Straight lines and sharp corners are poison arrows in feng shui because they don't occur in nature and negative chi travels in straight lines. When these poison arrows are either directed at you, or in an area of your home in which you spend a lot of time, it channels negative chi in your direction.
How Books are Poison Arrows
Books as poison arrows in feng shui are considered such because of their straight lines of the edges and the sharp corners where the corners meet. Thankfully, there are some easy cures to correct or lessen this negative energy.
Mitigating Negative Chi Caused by Books
In order to diminish the negative chi given off by books it's best to:
- Display them in a closed bookshelf – closed bookshelves block the negative chi flow.
- Not have the edges pointed directly at you – lay books horizontally in a stack with the binding facing outward or vertically so the straight edges and the corners are facing toward the ceiling and floor.
- Choose only your most favorite books to display – things that have sentimental value to you always have a positive chi flow.
- Don't display too many books – clutter blocks the flow of positive energy. Having many books on your shelves is fine as long as they aren't crammed into the shelves or stacked haphazardly. If you do have many books, consider displaying them in different areas of the house or pack them away.
- Place a few plants around the books – you can place a few plants either on the bookshelves or on top of a small stack of books. Cascading plants like ivy work great to cover the sharp lines and edges of both the bookshelf and the books.
- Buy a few crystals – faceted crystals disperse negative energy. If you don't like the traditional feng shui crystals, consider buying a few crystal figurines to place on top of a stack of books that are lying horizontally or next to a row of vertically placed books. Here are a few suggestions for crystal animal figurines:
- Bats symbolize good luck – if you've been experiencing a run of bad luck, a crystal bat figurine may help turn your luck around.
- Fish symbolize success – even if all the facets of your life are relatively successful, a fish figurine helps that success to continue.
- Horses represent strength – if you're in the middle of, or soon to be facing an emotionally or physically trying time, a horse figurine will help you endure.
- Tigers symbolize strength – this can be physical or emotional strength.
- Birds represent happiness – bring more happiness into your life by placing a few bird figurines next to your books.
Conclusion: Books as Poison Arrows in Feng Shui
Finally, when you're placing books around your house, keep an eye on their titles. You don't have to display books with only positive title messages like "How to Lead a Fulfilling Life" but you definitely don't want to display books with titles like "Living a Bitter Life" either. Instead, choose books that you've read and love. These books have sentimental value and positive energy attached to them. Choose wisely though, even though you may love that murder mystery book, if it has any violent connotations in its title or on its cover, you may just want to store it elsewhere.
