Bedroom Color Feng Shui
From LoveToKnow Feng-Shui
Bedroom color feng shui style means selecting colors that are not only restive but stimulating.
Bedroom Color: Feng Shui
Balance is the deciding factor of good design whether or not it’s feng shui driven. Regardless of what colors you select, the key elements in your bedroom design need to be suitable for your individual Kua number and the flying stars relationship in your chart and the chart for your house.
Many feng shui enthusiasts take the designing of the bedroom to an extreme because of the belief that a bedroom is all about yin energy and therefore must have only yin colors. This same mistake is made throughout the other rooms in the house when color is applied based purely on the direction of the room.
The truth about color is that the only time it enhances feng shui elements is when the outside of the home is painted a color that matches the sitting direction (not to be confused with facing direction). That’s not to say you should neglect interior colors. Painting a room blue won’t activate water energy until you introduce metal into the room, which is the water element.
Design and Function
While the bedroom is a place of rest, it also hosts other activities that are vital to your health, such as love and romance. The key aspect to a good bedroom design is to accommodate all of the activities a couple will engage in while in the bedroom. You don’t want to sacrifice your sex life for a room that is too docile and restive because you flooded it with only yin colors. You need to find balance in your color choices and the overall design of your bedroom.
This is one room that needs to serve two opposite activities. One is restive and the other is exciting and conducive to romantic interludes. To achieve this, feng shui offers you many tools that are often subtle but have very powerful results.
Don’t Sacrifice Romantic Elements
You don’t need to create a bedroom that makes you instantly fall into a meditative state the moment you enter it.
You aren’t limited to using only soft pastels or faded blues and lavenders for your bedroom color pallet. You certainly want to have a relaxing ambiance, but that doesn’t mean it needs to be boring. As impossible as it may sound, you can have a red bedroom and still have a good feng shui bedroom design.
Color Is Not Everything
You may have read that to have a perfect feng shui bedroom you can only use certain color pallets that are considered yin colors and have been advised against using any vibrant rich colors or yang colors. That simply isn’t true and reflects a lack of understanding of feng shui principles. Color is certainly important and is used in conjunction with direction and elements, but it should never be used in an effort to activate an element.
To believe a bedroom in the north must be painted blue is rigid thinking and incorrect. Again, feng shui principles are more concerned about using elements to activate energies. It’s far better to think in terms of elements than directions when it comes to selecting colors. If your chart indicates that you need more fire elements, then you should introduce wood furniture and candles or a fireplace. Naturally, the colors associated with these elements enhances your overall design.
Yin and Yang Color Pallets
Now that you don’t have to worry about using the wrong color for your bedroom, you can have some fun playing with yin and yang colors. This approach focuses on the kind of energy you wish to accentuate in the bedroom. The color won’t necessary draw that energy to the bedroom, but it will give you a good color pallet and end result.
Colors and Directions
Below are the colors typically associated with feng shui directions:
| Direction | Colors |
| North | Blue, black |
| Northeast | Blue, green, aqua, black |
| East | Green (preferably dark greens) |
| Southeast | Blue, red, purple |
| South | Red, pink, burgundy, peach |
| Southwest | Red, pink, white |
| West | Gray, white, gold, silver |
| Northwest | White, gray, black |
| Center of Home | Yellow, brown, tan |
You may prefer selecting a color pallet based on just the elements.
| Elements | Colors |
| Water | Blue, black |
| Wood | Green (preferably dark greens) |
| Fire | Red, pink, purple |
| Metal | Gray, white, gold, silver |
| Earth | Yellow, brown, orange |
Fun with Yin and Yang Colors
Limiting your color selection to either a prominent yin or yang can help you make easier color choices. You can challenge yourself to create a balance of yin and yang colors or select yin accents pieces and wall art or perhaps you wish to mix yin and yang colors with the design elements.
Some ways to introduce yin and yang colors and accents:
- Throw pillows with a combination of greens or reds
- Framed pictures over the night stands (never use paintings of water in the bedroom)
- Lamps and lamp shades
- Vases of roses (silk roses are fine for a bedroom)
- Accent statues of feng shui animals
Balance Is Your Objective
Your bedroom color feng shui project can be simplified to selecting yin and yang colors while introducing any elements you may need to activate the area.
